I have experienced many of Japan's famous gardens, however I think Ishikawa is the home of the oldest and most beautiful gardens in the country.
As you enter the garden there is a sense of grandeur, winding paths, stunning scenery, and statues, koi carp gently swimming in the intertwining ponds and channels, cicadas singing in the summer warmth. It is no wonder this park was home to the Roujou castle.
The park now contains a museum where you can learn in detail about the history of the park grounds, and the customs and crafts of the people of Komatsu. There is also a chaya, a tea house where traditional Japanese tea ceremonies are held.
When wandering through the park, you get a sense of the 'real' Japan and it is easy to imagine being in Japan many hundreds of years ago.
I come from an area of natural beauty in in England, but I really think this kind of garden is something unique to Japan, that you really have to come and experience in person.
